Just in case anyone was wondering, I have made a decision about my next power tube optimization.
This picture should provide a clue.
I thought that with popularity of the tube, an optimization of the 6BQ5/EL84 did actually make the most sense. I’ll make a modification to my test jig to add a 9CV based 9-pin socket and then I should be good to go. This will also give me the option of trying out a 6CW5/EL86 which, while not quite s popular as the EL84, still has a loyal following.
I still might revisit the 6CL6. I like it because the 7.5W maximum plate dissipation should allow me to get a couple of good watts out of it in SE-UL mode. As I said before, the tube intrigues me. It’s probably a better option than the 6AS5 with it’s tiny 5.5W plate dissipation limit.
I’ve also been spending some time laying a design for the KT88 Triode amp. More on that later.
As always, questions and comments are welcome.
